Case study in progress
Recently Pankhudi Mumbai concluded an on campus internship process at IIT Bombay.
Last week of October a presentation was given to 2nd, 3rd year students. It was surprisingly well attended and we received far more applicants than we thought we would. It was heartening to see undergraduate student interest in working in the non-profit sector.
A total of over 30 applications had to be screened and shortlisted. Over the last week (1st wk of Nov), we scrutinized the resumes and SOPs of all candidates, carefully selecting potential candidates on basis of perceived commitment, past experience in social work, participation in extra curricular activities etc.
We finally shortlisted 11 candidates for final process out of which we would choose about 4-5.
Last Sunday, we met in the morning to finalize the criteria for selection by interview and other nitty-gritties. We came up with a nice idea of holding a case study in order to gauge the thought process of the candidates before interviewing them.
The case study was: “You are involved in starting a new project for ~Protsahan (education initiative for children in a slum area). Enlist all possible problems you might face and suggest how you would resolve them.”
All candidates gave excellent entries on the topic. It was great fun to read each case-study and it also contained some very good ideas which we can take up going forth.
After considering the interview, the case study and the credentials of the candidate, we selected 6 candidates and have assigned pre-decided projects to them.
We would be looking forward to interacting with the interns in the month of December when they would be working with Pankhudi.
